Handwritten, loosely bound booklet recording Mrs F M Maclellan's journey from Corfu to England, written for her pupil, Emily Heber.
The journey commences from Corfu on 9 May on the ship, Hermes. Mrs Maclellan describes the sights of the voyage of the 10 May, including when they took on board the French Ambassador at Patras, and she records a story she heard about the natives of Bermuda. She goes ashore at Zante on 11 May. They enter Malta harbour on 13 May and go ashore on 14 May. They leave the island on 15 May, passing Cape Bona on the African coast and ancient Carthage the following day. On the 21 May they passed between Barbary and Spanish coasts, and stopped at Gibraltar. Mrs Maclellan gives a beautiful description of a walk through the Almeida. They visit various sites on Gibraltar, leaving on 24 May and sailing to Cadiz. The voyage continues along the Portuguese coast entering the Bay of Biscay on 28 May. They arrived in Cornwall and entered Falmouth harbour on the morning of on 31 May. Mrs Maclellan stayed in a boarding house in Falmouth, 1-6 Jun, visited some local sites, and left Falmouth on 7 Jun and embarked on a ship to sail to Guernsey.
The book includes two pen sketches of views, Sappho's leap, and the harbour at Zante bound into the volume.
