- Title:
- Dīvān-i Muḥyī - ديوان محيى
- Scope & Content:
- The collected poetry of the poet Muḥyī Lārī, who died in 933 AH (1526-27 CE). Little is known about the poet's early life, although the modifier "Lārī" would suggest that he was born on or claimed descent from people originating on the Island of Lar in the Gulf of Basra. In his youth, he left for Shiraz, where he studied under Jalāl al-Dīn al-Divvānī. He later moved to India, where was evidently active in courtly circles.Muḥyī Lārī's best known work is the Futūḥ al-Ḥaramayn(فتوح الحرمين), completed n 911 AH (1506 CE) and presented to the Sultan of Gujarat Muzaffir Shāh II. It is one of the best known Persian-language Hajj travelogues in existence. The current text is a collection of Muḥyī Lārī's Persian-language poetry. The volume may be incomplete, and a number of the folios bear evidence of water damage. The manuscript was likely copied in the early 16th century CE.
