- Excerpts on Hebrew Linguistics: [1] Glossary of roots, from Ḳimḥi's 'Book of Roots'; [2] the definite article in Rabbinic literature, from Solomon Zalman of Hanau’s Tsohar ha-tevah
- Scope & Content:
-
Excerpts on Hebrew Linguistics: [1] Glossary of roots, from David Ḳimḥi's 'Book of Roots'; [2] Rule for when, in Rabbinic literature, the definite article is explicit and when it is implicit, from Solomon Zalman of Hanau’s Tsohar ha-tevah
Or 17060 (1): Sheets 1 - 3: Glossary of biblical Hebrew roots, approximately in alphabetical order. At the top of the first page, Hakham Ezra Reuben Dangoor (HED) writes 'copied (hu'ataḳ / הועתק) from Rabbi David Ḳimḥi's 'Book of Roots'; however, rather than simply copying, HED selected and somewhat reworked the material.
Or 17060 (2): Excerpt from Rabbi Solomon Zalman ha-Kohen of Hanau’s work on Hebrew linguistics, Tsohar ha-tevah / צוהר התיבה = ‘the illumination of the word (ark)’ (cf. Genesis 6:16) (but cited by Hakham Dangoor as Tsohar la-tevah / צוהר לתיבה) with Mikhse ha-tevah / מכסה התיבה = ‘the covering of the word (ark)’ (Genesis 8:13). This work was published multiple times (Berlin 5529 AM = 1768/9 CE; Vilna 5633 AM = 1873 CE). The excerpt contains the author’s rule for when, in Talmudic literature, the definite article is explicitly used, and when it is omitted. It is published in the section ‘Tevat ha-melitsah' / תיבת המליצה, i.e. ‘words used to attain precision’, note to item 6 (Berlin edition, folio 63v; Vilna edition, bottom of pp. 162-163 = folios 81v-82r).
