Summary of Contents: Collection of miscellaneous Persian works on Sufism, comprised of heterogeneous parts from differing sources. Volume not dated; individual items dated (items b, e, and h), ranging 5 Jumādá al-S̲ānī 1083-16 Rabīʿ al-Avval 1152/28 September 1672-23 June 1739. Parts date from the period of Nadir Shah Afshar’s invasion of India and occupation of Delhi. Summaries of contents on folios 1r and 161v. Awkward scribal nastaʿlīq, naskh, and shikastah āmīz hands. Stamped foliation and discontinuous earlier Persian foliation. Lacks original binding. Original text cropped, cut and remounted with new margins in gutter. Folios subsequently rebound in IOL red half leather binding, stamp dated 18 Feb 1936. Folios damaged by large wormholes, gauze net overlay throughout, later repairs, cropped margins, and occasional stains. Labels from the earlier wrapper remounted at beginning. Treatise epitomising Naqshbandī Ṣūfī doctrine by a certain Ḥusayn ibn Ibn Yamīn al-Ḥusaynī. Although little is known of this author, Arberry suggests he flourished in the sixteenth century.
The work is divided into three sections termed aṣl.
Dated colophon (f. 160r): completed by Sayyid Muḥammad ʿĀdil Gardīzī Sarhindī, Thursday, 5 Jumādá al-S̲ānī 1083/28 September 1672. This is followed by a medical prescription for bleeding haemorrhoids and other conditions.
Scribal nastaʿlīq becoming course towards the end.
This item is particularly damaged by prominent clusters of wormholes.
