Miscellaneous Persian documents
Contents
Collection of miscellaneous, multilingual papers and correspondence from various nineteenth-century sources, including a large cartoon of traced mosque inscriptions once belonging to William Irvine. The majority of correspondence relates to William Moorcroft (1767-1825), is aborted expedition to Tibet in 1812, and the British East India Company’s failure to gain concessions from the rulers of Ladakh (Ladāgh)
Material additionally includes copies of seventeenth-century Timurid or Mughal farmāns, correspondence with Maharajah Ranjit Singh, ruler of Punjab, and a calligraphic tract on chronogrammatic and laudatory verses written on the walls of Tipu Sultan’s palace at Srirangapatnam
Annotations by Charles Ambrose Storey dated 18 December 1931, suggesting he was responsible for compiling the miscellaneous documents
