- Scope & Content:
- Journal of British diplomat, Henry Unwin Addington, describing a journey to Prussia across Sweden and Germany with General Hope and joining Sir Charles Stewart in transporting a peace treaty with Denmark and Sweden back to England. The journal begins with an account of a trip to Cadiz in 1812 before concentrating on the journey across Europe. It includes descriptions of living with the threat of the French advance and the military build-up to the Battle of Leipzig as well as close contact with the action at Schkeuditz. Addington was also present at Kiel during the signing of a treaty between Britain, Sweden and Denmark, and describes bringing it back to England. He also records his return to the continent in Feb 1814 to follow Napoleon's rearguard, and time spent in Paris.
