The manuscript comprises eleven illustrations of foodofferings for Gosekku 五節句, the five annual imperial court ceremonies, and twenty-twoillustrations of different decorations for room divider screens. Each illustration is aqccompanied by a short explanatory text.
The five festivals are: Jinjitsu on 7th January, Hinamatsuri(Girls’ Day) on 3rd March, Tango nosekku (Boys’ Day) on 5th May, Tanabata(Star Festival) on 7th July and Kiku Matsuri (Chrysanthemum Festival)on 9th September. The illustrations show the different offeringsof food, fruit, herbs etc. typical of each seasonal ceremony. The room dividersmade of a wooden frame are decorated with hanging illustrated pieces of clothand various ropes tied in different ways depending on the season.
