National Library of Laos Collection of Buddhist Manuscripts.
Custodial history: The provenance of the material is unknown. Some manuscripts may have been collected during the French colonial period and later returned from Hanoi while others were collected after Independence, shortly after the National Library was established. Almost all manuscripts originally in Vientaine were destroyed or removed before the French colonial period.
Arrangement: Manuscripts are stored in cupboards according to categories in a dedicated room on the second storey of the National Library of Laos, which is reponsible for the organisation of the collection. Manuscript codes are as used under the Lao Ministry of Information and Culture 'Preservation of Lao Manuscripts Programme' (1992-2004).
