- Title:
- Risale-yi telkih-i bakari - رسالۀ تلقیح بقری
- Scope & Content:
- This volume contains a treatise on vaccination entitled Telkih-i Bakari by Mustafa Behçet, Court Physician. It was written in 1216 AH (1801-02 CE), and is described in the preface as a translation of the most important portions of a work by E. Jenner that had just reached the writer, supplemented with some extracts from two unspecified Latin treatises. The contents of the work are: Mukaddime (ff 2v-5r); Bab I: Contagion of the cow-pox (ff 5v-8r); Bab II: Good effects of vaccination (ff 8v-10v); and Hatime: Practical method of vaccination (ff 11r-14r). Jenner, the original author of the underlying text, is not mentioned in the preface, but his name occurs further on, on f 3v, in the following passage: Mesfur Yener tabibin risalesinden. Some parts of the work agree with Jenner's Inquiry into the causes and effects of the variolae vaccinae. The present copy is written in a European hand with numerous orthographic errors. The manuscript is undated but was likely copied in the 19th century CE.
