- Title:
- Commentary on Solomon Ibn Gabirol's 'Azharot' (poetic list of the Torah's Commandments)
- Scope & Content:
-
The medieval Iberian Jewish rabbi, philosopher, and poet Solomon Ibn Gabirol composed his version of the 'Azharot' / אזהרות, a poetic listing of the Torah's commandments. The Azharot were often recited as part of the liturgy of Shavu'ot / שבעות, 'the Feast of Weeks'. This manuscript contains a commentary on Ibn Gabirol's text. The commentary is written in the hand of Hakham Ezra Reuben Dangoor (HED). In evidence is his practice of adding additional commentary in the margins. Thus, HED is presumably the author of the commentary.
Pencilled on the backs of folios 11 and 10 (originally the fronts of folios 1 and 2) are what seem to be French notes on merchandise.
