Summary of Contents: Anthology of poetic compositions expressing the cosmopolitan gastronomic culture of Timurid provincial courts by the poet Jamāl al-Dīn Abū Isḥāq al-Shīrāzī, known as Ḥallāj, takhalluṣ Busḥāq varied to Aṭʿimah in his culinary verses (d. 827/1424), focussing on the allegorical treatment of the ingredients and types of common and ceremonial Persian and Indian foods. Volume not dated; datable to the early seventeenth century. Intermittent pencil foliation. Calligraphic to scribal nastaʿlīq. Limited annotations and corrections in margins by multiple contemporary and later hands. Damaged composite binding (brown tooled leather board and spine mistakenly paired with a front board with combed marbled paper over delaminating paste board with brown leather edging and corners); labels. Selections referencing Persian and Indian food and its ingredients from the poetic works of numerous poets followed by the poetic responses in varied forms and genres (tarjīʿ, ghazal, qiṭʿah, rubāʿī, mustazād, mas̲navī, fard) of the present compiler and poet, Jamāl al-Dīn Abū Isḥāq al-Shīrāzī, known as Ḥallāj, takhalluṣ Busḥāq varied to Aṭʿimah in his culinary verses (d. 827/1424).
The work was apparently written for ʿĪd al-Fiṭr celebrations in the year 815 (1 Shavvāl/13 January 1413, yielded by the chronogrammatic title) for the circle of courtiers associated with the ruler praised at the beginning, Shāh Abā Naṣr Sulṭān Sayf al-Dīn al-Hurmuzī.
The works of other poets sampled here include Khvājū Kirmānī, Ẓahīr Fārābī, Shaykh ʿImād Faqīh, Amīr Ḥasan, Ḥāfiẓ, Shaykh Saʿdī, Sayyid Niʿmat Allāh, Khvājah Ṣadr al-Dīn, Salmān, Amīr Khusraw, Kamāl Ghiyās̲, Shams Nāṣir, Shaykh Jamāl Khujandī, Mawlānā Maḥmūd Jawharī, Nāṣir Bukhārī, Mawlānā Amīn al-Dīn, Mawlānā Awḥadī, Sulṭān Abū Saʿīd, Darvīsh Ashraf Namadpūsh, Mawlānā Quṭb al-Dīn, and Mawlānā ʿAbd al-Vāsiʿ.
The work opens with an allegorical preface and concludes with a similar conclusion in refined prose.
