- Title:
- Pahlavi Rivayat
- Scope & Content:
-
A copy of the Pahlavi Rivāyat accompanying the Dādistān ī dēnīg, of which ff. 8, 13, 32-63 belong to an old copy made in Iran and dating from the 16th century.
The missing folios have been copied by the scholar E. W. West from an almost identical modern manuscript belonging to Dastur Jamaspji Minochihrji Jamasp-asana in Bombay.
Pahlavi text ends on f. 86r with a postscript by West on f. 86v.
The concluding 15 folios (ff. i-xv) comprise notes by West and correspondence between him and F.W.Thomas, Librarian of the India Office, dated 16 June 1902 and 6 Jan, 8 Jan, 12 May, and 26 Sept.1903.
In a supplementary note to Ross and Browne’s Catalogue of two collections (1902, p. 172), West writes, but without giving any reasons, that the manuscript “probably arrived in India in 1818, and seems to have formerly belonged to Seth Dhanjibhāi Frāmji Pātel, the learned compiler of the first Pahlavi grammar, published in 1855.”
Former number: P&A CCXXVII.
