- Title:
- Passover season, various writings
- Scope & Content:
- Passover season, various writings from the collection of Hakham Ezra Reuben Dangoor (HED). Some writings are unquestionably written in the hand of HED. Some of the content is original, while some is collected from other sources.
Or 17103 (1). 15-folio notebook plus two inserted sheets, folios 16 and 17, containing an anthology of exegesis, homilies, sermons, laws, and insights relevant to the observance of Passover, the narrative of the Exodus from Egypt, and passages from the relevant tractate of Talmud (Pesaḥim).
Or 17103 (2). Anthology of 'explanations on the Hagadah, from Sh.H. and P.D.' / פשטים על הגדה מן ש"ה ופ"ד, plus one item from Ohel yesharim / אוהל ישרים, totaling 22 items.
Or 17103 (3). Anthology of 9 explanations on the Passover Hagadah.
Or 17103 (4). Anthology of 19 explanations on the Passover Hagadah.
Or 17103 (5). Anthology of 12 explanations on the Passover Hagadah.
Or 17103 (6). Explanation of the 'Signs of the Seder' / סימני הסדר (a mnemonic encapsulating the order of the Passover Seder) according to the method of 'Remez' / רמז = allusion. E.g. the first item in the mnemonic is "Ḳadesh" / קדש = 'sanctify'. In the simple, non-allusive sense, this is simply a reference to the opening act of the Seder, viz. blessing God, over a beaker of wine, for having sanctified Israel with this festival. However, according to "remez", 'it is an allusion to the Plague of the Firstborn. Although that was the final one, it nevertheless is "first as the cornerstone" (cf. Psalm 118:22), as is written, "Ḳadesh / קדש = sanctify unto Me every firstborn" etc. (Exodus 13:2). Therefore, Ḳadesh / קדש = sanctify alludes to the Firstborn'. The same is done for the remainder of the items in the mnemonic.
Or 17103 (7). Anthology of approximately 11 explanations on part of the Passover Haggadah, from "Kamah ma'alot" / כמה מעלות (AKA "Dayenu" / דיינו) through the final blessing of the "Magid" / מגיד section.
Or 17103 (8). Fragment of anthology of explanations on the Passover Hagadah, containing 6 items (the first one only in part), beginning in the middle of an explanation of the question of the "wise son".
Or 17103 (9). Explanations on Psalm 118:25b, 29, and 5, which are part of the "Halel" / הלל section, at the end of the Passover Seder.
Or 17103 (10). Explanations on the "Halel" / הלל (Psalms 113 - 118) and its invocation, as recited over the course of the Passover Seder. Folios 1 and 2 are numbered with the Hebrew alphanumeric numbers יט = 19 and כ = 20, consecutively.
