- Title:
- Notebook of Robert Bamford
- Scope & Content:
-
A notebook used by one Robert Bamford in the early 19th century. The notebook is largely used to record Bamford's accounts, income and expenditure, including the purchase of shoes, bank accounts, money and goods paid and received from other individuals, and a legacy from his uncle.
Also recorded is the date of Bamford's arrival in London in 1806, a bet that he would weigh a certain amount in five years' time, notes on addresses of individuals, and a short piece of verse on the retreat of Joseph Bonaparte from Spain.
Inscribed on the last page is a note stating that the notebook was exhibited as part of a commission of Bankruptcy against Robert Bamford on the 29th of January 1822, signed with the names of three witnesses or members of the commission.
