Four letters of nineteenth-century violinists:
Camillo SIVORI (1815 –1894), in French, to an unknown recipient (‘Mon cher ami…’), Geneva, 21st June 1853. With reference to a coach accident in which Sivori fractured his left wrist, and which also involved the impresario Richard Mulder and his wife the impresario and singer Inez Fabbri-Mulder. With other remarks on Sivori’s tour of Switzerland.
Henri VIEUXTEMPS (1820–1881), in French, to the cellist Joseph van der Heyden, Mustapha, Algeria, 24th August 1880. With reference to his brother Lucien Vieuxtemps and the cellist Adrien-François Servais, and their verdict on his cello concerto. With reference to a Mr. Smetkoren.
Giovanni Battista VIOTTI (1755–1824), in English, to William Watts of the Philharmonic Society, 3rd January 1816, expressing his regret at having to turn down his recent appointment to a directorship of the Society.
Henryk WIENIAWSKI (1835–1880), in French, to an unknown correspondent (‘Cher Monsieur, et ami…’), London, 23rd September 1876. With reference to Wieniawski’s brother Joseph (Director of the Warsaw Musical Society).
