- Title:
- Divan-i Qavsi - ديوان قوسى
- Scope & Content:
- This volume contains the collected poetry of Qavsi, who is known to Ottoman biographers and occasionally referred to by his nisbet, Təbrizi (ff 38v, 108v). He appears to have lived in the city, and other passages in the work imply that he might have been Shi'i. Several of his qəzəllər are explicit imitations of those of Füzuli (ff 20r, 35r, 36r, 40v, 93r, 104r etc.).
The manuscript is imperfect at the beginning and end. It must have lost many leaves at the start, as the qəzəllər, which occupy nearly the whole volume, begin abruptly at the raa' qafiyə.
The qəzəllər are followed on f 111r by some tərcibəndlər, the last of which, in praise of the gardens of Mīrzā Ṭāhir, is unfinished. Mīrzā Ṭāhir Vaḥīd Qazvīnī, who is apparently the individual implied, was the historian of Shah Abbas II and Vezir of Shah Sulaymān (1101-05 AH/1689-94 CE). According to the the Majmaˁ al-Fuṣaḥā (Vol. II, p. 50), he also composed poetry in Azerbaijani.
The author of the Divan is likely also identical with the Qavsi Tabrizi who, according to the Persian taẕkirahs of Ṭāhir Naṣīrābādī (Add MS 7087, f 212r) and of Vaḥīd (Riyāẓ al-shuˁarā Add MS 16729, f 372v) lived at the same period. He is mentioned as one of the disciples of Aghā Ḥusayn Khwānsārī, the famous mujtahid of Shah Sulaymān.
The manuscript was likely completed in the 18th century CE.
