Barq i lāmi'
- Scope & Content:
- A controversial Shi'a poem in Masnawi verse in reply to an anonymous Sunni Masnawi entitled Saif i qati. By Mirza Ja'far, Fasih. Begins:
The author gives the text of the Saif i qati a few lines at a time, and writes a reply to each showering virulent abuse upon his religious opponent. The Saif i qati begins:
The Saif i qati ends:
The Barq i lami' ends with a chronogram expressing the date of composition, A.H. 1230 (A.D. 1815), and the title of the poem:
This is followed by two Persian couplets, the last line of which is intended to form a chronogram on the same date, and has the numeral 1230 subscribed in red; but according to the abjad the date comes to 1231.
Neither the author's name nor his takhallus occurs in the poem, but on the fly-leaf is written مثنوی فصیح در جواب اھل سنی and in the Catalogue of Delhi MSS, he is called Mirza Ja'far, whose takhallus is Fasih. He is described by Nassakh in his Tazkirah, the Sukhan i shu'ara, as being a writer of Marsiyahs, the son of Mirza Hadi of Lucknow, and a pupil of Shaikh Imam Bakhsh, Nasikh (who died A.H. 1254, i.e. A.D. 1838).
