Althorp Papers. Vols. mcccxxiii-mcccxliv. Papers of George Spencer, later Father Ignatius of the Order of Passionists (1799-1864), fifth son of George John Spencer, 2nd Earl Spencer; 1814-1829, n.d. Mostly autograph. Mostly academic notebooks, exercise books and papers from his later school years and his years at Trinity College, Cambridge, with sketchbooks, topographical and other notebooks, and a few miscellaneous letters and papers. George Spencer was Rector of Great Brington, Northamptonshire, from 1824 (?) to 1830, before being received into the Roman Catholic Church in 1830. He later joined the Order of Passionists and took the name Father Ignatius of St. Paul. For his correspondence, see Add. MSS 75950-75951; also Add. MS 44777, f. 63.
