- There are many instances in the archive of acid-free paper which have been used to surround or interleave pages where modern stationery/adhesives have caused deterioration of archival materials. These are there as protective buffers to prevent acidic substances seeping through and causing further contamination. It may look like there are stray blank pages in the archive but these leaves must be left in place as found as they are important for long-term preservation.
