- Title:
- Black Bagr Narration
- Scope & Content:
-
This series contains audio recordings, audio visual recordings and digital images of material dating from Nov 1994 relating to the narration and practice of the black bagr.
The black bagr for each house or kin group is always one long narrative audition to be spoken continuously by one voice except when a serious error is committed. This is the longest oral narrative composition by a single voice to be identified in Africa. The myth of bagr is the most secretive rite of bagr rituals. It is performed late at night or in a secluded domain. Only bagr members are allowed to participate in this ceremony.
All the files within this series capture the actual narration of the myth of the bagr. The original material is a combination of audio cassettes, VHS audio-video mini tapes and photographs.
