- The registers were forwarded to the India Office Records in 1969 and 1970.
- Administrative Context:
- The registers were maintained under the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act (India Act IV of 1886) and marriages were also governed by the Indian Christian Marriage Act of 1872. The birth registrations before August 1949 relate to British subjects of all classes and to foreigners; from August 1949, to British subjects other than citizens of the UK and Colonies and to foreigners. The death registrations relate likewise, the dividing date being July 1949.
