- Siam was first visited by the "Globe" in 1612 on the tenth voyage. The Company's merchants readily obtained permission to trade there. Siam's chief importance to the Company lay in its trade with China from where raw silk, silk goods and porcelain could be obtained. However, trade reached no great volume and in 1626 the Directors ordered the factory's closure. The factory was re-established in 1666 but when the Dutch drove the English out of Bantam in 1682, it was given up.
