Scope & Content:: These papers deal with the creation of foreign consular posts in British India and Burma, their jurisdiction, the appointment of consular officials (both substantive and acting) and general consular matters - all appointments of foreign consular officials in India required the formal approval of both the Government of India and HM Government in London. Consular papers were separately registered from 1885 - series L/PS/16 consists of three separate registration sequences viz: 1885-1909, 1910-1924 and 1924-1930 as well as some miscellaneous unregistered files 1890-1909
