The gaps in the sequence of original file numbers are the result of administrative procedures whereby files were transferred to other departments, merged with other files, or destroyed. The actions taken can be traced in the departmental registers in IOR/Z. IOR/L/PJ/7/12285 is lacking

Administrative Context:

The file series was continued by the Commonwealth Relations Office Division B for a few years after the dissolution of the India Office in August 1947. Selected files were transferred to the Commonwealth Relations Office and later to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
