All sixty four extant finished drawings plus rough sketches and proofs for Mervyn Peake's illustrations of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, commissioned by Zephyr Books of Stockholm, Sweden in 1945. Mervyn Peake revised his drawings for the 1954 edition published by Allan Wingate. Drawings have publishers' numbering marked on the reverse or on an additional leaf. Some have captions written in other hands [including Maeve Gilmore's] but only Peake's captions have been consistently recorded in the description. Dimensions or ratios of printed illustrations are noted in pencil on the original drawings. Pencil construction lines, scalpel marks and white highlights are visible.
