-83526. Lord Chamberlain’s Office Theatre Files (Series i). Vols. cxl-cxliv. Scala Theatre; 1904-1935. Former LCO file no. 300. Theatre opened 13 February 1905. Also licensed as a cinema from 1910. From 1922 the letterhead bears the title ‘New Scala Theatre’ although the licence and correspondence usually continues to show the original title. The original name proposed was ‘Royal Sovereign Playhouse’, but this title was rejected by the King. For files relating to the years 1936-1951, see 88891/52.
