Except where expressly stated, the MSS. are not dated, entitled or signed, and the poems were published for the first time in Romantic Ballads, to which page references apply. It appears that some of the fair copies may have been made for the projected Songs of Scandinavia on which Borrow was working in 1829-1830 or 'Songs of Denmark' on which he was working circa 1842. Borrow continued working on these projects in the 1850s, 1860s and even 1870s. As follows:―
