ELLIS COLLECTION. Vols. I-IV. Sir Henry Ellis, A General Introduction to Domesday Book (1833), interleaved and rebound in four volumes. Ellis's own copy, in which he inserted a large number of additions and corrections from the time of publication until shortly before his death. He hoped to incorporate this material into a new edition of the work, but this was never published. There are also a few annotations by Ellis's grandson, Henry John Ellis, Senior Assistant in the Department of Manuscripts. The material inserted in these volumes includes: - (a) Add. 64065, ff. 2-3. Advertisement for A. L. Léchaudé d'Anisy and de Sainte-Marie, Recherches sur le Domesday et le Boldon-Book (1842). Printed. French: - (b) Add. 64065, ff. 5-5v. Advertisement for Samuel Henshall and John Wilkinson, Domesday, or an actual Survey of South Britain. This work was printed in 1799, but the advertisement is here dated 1798 by Ellis. Printed: - (c) Add. 64068, ff. 123-124v. Letter to Ellis from Joseph Hunter, the antiquary, 13 Jan. 1834.
