E. INDEX STEVENS TRANSCRIPTS.The index consists of slips of thin paper which, when they reached the Museum, were arranged loose in boxes in a single chronological series. To enable them to be used as a rough index nominum, they were rearranged in alphabetical order, during 1954-1956, by D. H. W. Young, Esq., M.B.E., who also inserted on the slips the Add. MS. reference of the transcripts in cases where he was able to identify them with certainty; the absence of such notations from the slips is not, however, to be taken as a certain indication that the documents to which they refer are not to be found in the collection. In many cases such unmarked slips refer only to duplicate copies of the documents in other archive.Vols. CXCV-CCXL. Index, as above, on slips, now laid down in forty-six volumes.
