49562-49570. HALIFAX PAPERS. Vols. XXXII-XL. Letter Books of Lord Halifax as First Lord of the Admiralty; 1855-1858. Not indexed in detail. Letters in Add. MSS. 49562-49568 to Commanders-in-Chief on foreign stations are entered on the right and those to others on the left. Each volume is followed by an index and originally had a lock. They were part of a series specially bound for Lord Halifax and stamped in gilt on the spines 'Letter Book, Vol. VIII[-XIV], Admiralty', and are followed by two unnumbered volumes of similar format of which 49569, stamped 'Index', comprises brief abstracts of letters indexed, those to Lord Halifax being generally entered on the left and the replies on the right, and 49570, stamped 'Telegraphs' contains copies of telegrams, those from Lord Halifax being entered on the left and those to him on the right.
