Title:

'RECUEIL de chansons choisies en vaudeviles pour seruir a l'Histoire Anecdote' [de France]; 1600-1749. To most of the songs the date and a brief explanation of the political allusions are given in the margin; and at the head of each (except in vol. viii, where the airs are placed together at the end) the music is added. An alphabetical index of the persons and places mentioned is appended to each volume. The same songs mostly appear also in Egerton MSS. 814-817, which are described in detail in Cat. of MS. Music, ii, pp. 272, 528. Those only found here are described ib. p. 557 (cf. p. 277), and the initial words of the entire collection, with the names of the tunes, are given in Index I of the same catalogue.
