FRAZER NOTE-BOOKS. Vols. I-XL. The 'Unclassified' note-books: anthropological extracts and notes, mainly from printed sources. Much of the contents was published by Frazer in Anthologia Anthropologica, ed. R. A. Downie, 4 vols. 1938-1939, where (in The Native Races of Africa and Madagascar, facing p. 4) 45468, f. 93b, is reproduced. 45467-45481 are arranged on a rough geographical basis; the remainder are miscellaneous, but 45457-45466 are derived solely from periodicals. In most of the volumes is a list of contents. 45442 includes original notes by Frazer on the relation of morality to religion (ff. 2-5b) and on the Greek deities (f. 7), a draft of 'A Witches' Ladder', The Folk-Lore Journal, v (1887), pp. 81-83 (ff. 63b, 64), and a printed cutting [from the Bath Herald, 13 Mar. 1886] reprinted ibid., pp. 261-262 (f. iv); at 45469, f. i, is a draft apparently of part of the preface or prospectus of The Golden Bough, 3rd edn., 1911-1915.
