DIARY of Isabella, wife of Sir Roger Twysden, 2nd Bart., including notes of public affairs as well as family matters, occurrences of the Civil War, movements of the armies, etc. ; 1645, 1647-1649, 1651. Holograph, with a few entries by Sir Roger. The entries for the most part are written on the blank pages of printed almanacs. Four volumes, viz. (Vol. l.) Hercurius Coelicus, etc., by John Booker, 1647; (Vol. II.) Pond's Almanack, 1648; (Vol. III.) Uranoscopia or an Almanack and Prognosticon, by John Booker, 1649; and (Vol. IV.) Hemeroscopeion, or a Meteorologicall Diary, etc., by Capt. George Wharton, 1651. The account of the King's execution in Vol. iii., f. 9 b, is as follows: " The 19 Janv. 1648/9 the army brought the K. from Winsor to Sr James a prisoner as he was before. He was brooght to Tryall at Wesmester, by Act of the hovs of commons, the 20, 22, 23 and 27, and then he was sentansed to have his head taken of, which the 30, being tosday, wm dvn, on a scaffold att White hall nere the bankeating hovs, betwene 1. and 2. a clock in the afternone. When he was one the scaffold, a flite of wild docks came and flew over tell his head was off, then they flew a waye, a drack first stoping downe and tovching his bill on tho block, as many sed that was there by at the time and sawe the soulders strick and shvte at them, but hit none."
