STATE-PAPERS, letters, etc., relating to negotiations with Portugal and Spain; l572-1720. Seven volumes. Paper. Folio. The collection was made by Sir Robert Southwell, Clerk to the Privy Council, and (1690) Secretary of State for Ireland. The letters comprise the correspondence of Southwell, when Envoy to Portugal (1665-1669), with the Secretaries of State and others, and, on his return, with Francis Parry, English Resident at Lisbon (1671-1680), and Paul Methuen, Envoy Extraordinary to Lisbon (1698-1700), together with the letters of the two latter to the Secretaries of State.
