CORRESPONDENCE of Colonel Henry Sidney, Envoy to Holland, etc., created in 1689 Viscount Sidney, and in 1694 Earl of Romney, consisting chiefly of letters addressed to Sidney, with some drafts of his own letters; circ. 1674-1691. Two volumes. Vol. i. 1674-May, 1680; vol. II. July, 1681-1691. The names of the writers will be found in the Index. Most of the letters are printed in Diary of the times of Charles the Second, by the Hon. Henry Sidney, etc., by R. W. Blencowe, 2 vols., London, 1843. Prefixed to the letters in vol. I. are a few family papers and letters of earlier date, viz.:-Two testamentary directions, by Dorothy, wife of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester, chiefly in favour of her son, Henry Sidney; n.d., 10 July, 1659. ff. 1, 3;-Draughts and memoranda by Robert, Earl of Leicester, the first (f. 4) giving an account of the last moments of Dorothy, his wife, 20 Aug. 1659, (see Blencowe, Sydney Papers, 1825, p. 271), and another (f. 9) relating to conversations with the Danish Resident concerning his son, Algernon Sidney, July, 1660. ff. 4-12;-Three letters (the third a copy) from P[hilip Sidney] Viscount Lisle [afterwards 3rd Earl of Leicester] to his father; n.d. ff. 13, 15, 17.
