37298-37307. WELLESLEY PAPERS. Vols. XXV.-XXXIV. Official correspondence of the Marquis Wellesley, when Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Jan. 1822-March, 1828, and again, Sept. 1833-Dec. 1834. During the administration of Lord Liverpool, which ended in 1827, the bulk of the correspondence was partly with him, but more particularly with Robert Peel, Home Secretary, and Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant, at the Irish Office in London. In April-Aug. 1827, when Canning was Prime Minister, it was carried on with William Sturges Bourne, Home Secretary, and, after July, with his successor, the Marquis of Lansdowne. The latter retained his office in the succeeding ministry of Lord Goderich, who also wrote frequently to Wellesley. Goulburn was succeeded as Chief Secretary, in 1827, by the Hon. William Lamb [2nd Viscount Melbourne, 1829], who, not only in this capacity but subsequently as Home Secretary and Prime Minister, was a constant correspondent. When the Duke of Wellington was called upon to form a ministry in 1828, his brother resigned office, and there are therefore no letters (except a few, of little importance, in 1832) in the present series between March, 1828 and Sept. 1833, but some letters on Irish affairs in this interval are included in the General Correspondence (37308- 37313). In Sept. 1833 Wellesley became Lord Lieutenant for the second time under Earl Grey and subsequently under Viscount Melbourne, and his correspondence was chiefly with them and with Lord Duncannon, Home Secretary. Ten volumes. Paper. Folio.
