Original drafts of ten of Mozart's quartets, for 2 violins, viola, and violoncello, in score. In three volumes. They are respectively numbered, probably by Stumpff, 28-33, 37, 34-36. The K. (followed by a number) given below, stands for Kochel's Thematic Catalogue, from which also the dates in square brackets are taken. Add MS 37763. Vol. i (ff. 68). 'Six Quartetts dedicated to Haydn [1 Sept., 1785]'; originally published by Artaria as Op. 10. They are preceded by some lines on Mozart, begins 'A ray had flash'd,' by J. A. Sturnpff.

Sold by Constanze Mozart to the Offenbach an Main publisher Johann Anton André in 1799; acquired after 1810 by Johann Andreas Stumpff, a London harp maker, at whose death (see Add MS 37766, f. 1, etc.) were bought by Charles H. Chichele Plowden (book-plate), in 1847; passed to his daughter Harriet Chichele Plowden on his death in 1866, who in turn bequeathed the manuscripts to the British Museum in 1907
