LETTERS AND PAPERS connected with the Vice- Admiralty of Munster, an office held successively by Sir Robert Southwell (1677-1701), Edward Southwell (1701-1730), and Edward Southwell junior (1733-1749). The letters are chiefly from Capt. James Waller, Deputy Vice-Admiral for the Port of Kinsale, and date from 1692 until his retirement in 1699. Waller also held office under the Ordnance Board and the Commissioners for Sick and Wounded, and constant reference is made to his transactions with those boards. He was member of the Irish Parliament for Tralee, and his letters written from Dublin in 1697 (27 July-10 Sept., 38150, ff. 32-60), 1698 (6 Oct.-3 Dec., 38150, ff. 105-125), and 1698/9 (10-21 Jan., 38151, ff. 1-7) contain accounts of proceedings in the Irish House of Commons. Other letters are from deputies in various parts of Munster. A list of deputies and their districts in 1733 is in 38152, ff. 77, 78. Many of the letters deal with the Southwell estate in Kinsale, and among the documents are included numerous powers of attorney and assignments from mariners of Kinsale to Edw.
