The earlier letters in Add. 38197 are chiefly copies, the first letter actually addressed to Jenkinson (f. 196) being of 16 June, 1761. Among the correspondence in the later volumes occur letters of David Hume (38201, f. 185) and Samuel Johnson (38204, f. 366), and there is an extensive series of letters of Sir Joseph Banks (from 1786, see Index).
