LIVERPOOL PAPERS. Vols. CCLVII-CCLXII. Letters and papers relating to the Duchy of Lancaster, of which the lst Earl of Liverpool was Chancellor, 1786-1803, and the 2nd Earl Receivergeneral, 1790-1820. The chief contents are correspondence about the various offices in the Duchy, the Receiver-general's accompts of fees for sealing writs, and of prefines and composition-money for recoveries at the assizes, and papers relating to lands, etc., in the hands of the Duchy, such as Needwood Forest, Myerscough Forest, Leicester Hospital, and Pontefract School. The last volume, which is in the original rough calf binding (rebacked), with red label, contains "State of Revenues and Offices" drawn up in 1797 by the deputy-clerk of the Council, R. J. Harper, divided into (1) Particulars (under the various, Honours, etc.) of rents due to the King in 1795. f. 4; (2) A comparative view of the effective rents in 1760 and 1795. f. 54; (3) Casual revenues from fines, timber, etc. ; 1751-1795. f. 64; (4) Accompt of offices and places held by patent, with salaries, etc.; 1743-1797. f. 65; (5) Accompt of all other salaries, and brief statement of annual profit to the Crown. ff. 68 b, 71 b; (6) Accompt of ecclesiastical preferments; 1690-1796. f. 74; (7) Accompt of reductions in the revenues of the Duchy; 1775. f. 76; (8) Rules for renewals of leases; 1772. f. 80; (9) Lists of Chancellors (1373-1786), Auditors (1628-1782), Clerks of the Council (1587-1775), Protonotaries of the Common Pleas in Lancashire (1635-1755), and Clerks of the Peace (1616-1771). ff. 84-90.
