WAR-OFFICE and other correspondence, 1660-1759, consisting chiefly of (a) Letters to William Blathwayt, Secretary-at- War 1683-1704, from officers and commanders of garrisons (the letters of Peter Shakerley, Governor of Chester, for the period of the Revolution are of interest) ; (b) Drafts of correspondence by Blathwayt, mostly written when in attendance on the King in the Netherlands, including some by Adam Cardonnel, Secretary to Marlborough ; (c) Miscellaneous papers, accompts, establishments, army lists, forage warrants, and contracts, relative to the English and Allied armies. The last two volumes are for the most part papers of Edward Southwell, Secretary for Ireland 1702-1730, into whose bands this correspondence passed on his marriage with Blathwayt's daughter. Southwell's papers relate chiefly but not exclusively to the army in Ireland. The names of the writers are given in the, Index. Twenty volumes. Paper. Folio.
