"A DICTIONARY Of Monograms and identified Paintings," by Frederick Peter Séguier, arranged alphabetically under names of painters in two series (Vols. I-IV, V-VIII) with 127 plates and five printed title-pages. Eight volumes. Prefixed (Vol. I, f. i) is a memorandum of June, 1901, stating the author's intention to send the then completed MS. to certain publishers and, in event of refusal, to offer it to the British Museum. The work includes directions for publication in four volumes (Vol. I, f. 2), a dissertation on early British portraits (Vol. II, f. 103 b), and a biographical notice of William Séguier (b. 1771, d. 1843), first Keeper of the National Gallery, uncle of the author (Vol. IV, f. 42).
