LETTERS (142) of [William Wyndham Grenville, Baron] Grenville [Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1791-1801, First Lord of the Treasury 1806-1807] to [Ludwig Josef Maria Georg, Graf and (1807) Fürst von] Starhemberg [Austrian Ambassador to England 1793-1810 (with intervals)]. Two vols.: Vol. I, 5 Sept. 1793-6 Dec. 1797; Vol. II, 12 Jan. 1798-2 May 1801, and n.d. French. Holograph, for the most part signed with Grenville's initial only. The letters relate mainlv to the measures to be taken against revolutionary France and the progress of the campaigns. A number of them (with others not found in these volumes) have been printed from Grenville's copies in Report on MSS. of J. B. Fortescue, at Dropmore, vols. iii-vi. (Hist. MSS. Comm., 1899-1906), where Starhemberg's replies are also to be found. The present letters were used by Count Andreas Thürheim for his Ludwig Fürst Starhemberg, 1889.
