NELSON PAPERS. Vols. XXXVII.-XXXIX. Original letters of Sir John Jervis, Earl of St. Vincent; 1795-1801. Three volumes. Vols. I., II. and III., ff. 1-126, contain letters written by him, as Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet [Nov. 1795-June, 1799], to Lord Nelson, who was with the fleet with various commands during nearly the whole of that period. Lord St. Vincent was appointed to the command of the Channel Fleet at the end of 1799, and Vol. III., ff. 138-226, contains his General Orders to his Captains, etc., Jan. 1800-Jan. 1801, followed by (a) a few letters to Lord Nelson, then Vice-Admiral and second in command (ff. 227-244), and (b) four letters (three of them addressed to Lord Nelson) from Lieut. James Vivion, R.A., written from Malta, 31 May.-l July, 1799, on the, state of that island (ff. 249-257). Included in the same volume (f. 247) is a draft, corrected by his own hand, of Lord Nelon's General Letter to the Captains, Officers, etc., employed in the unsuccessful attempt on the French fleet off Boulogne on 15-16 August, 1801.
