PERUGINI COLLECTION. Vols. III (ff. 38) and IV (ff. 53). Vocal music, chiefly by Italian composers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, probably collected, for the greater part at least, by Leonardo Perugini, in whose hand some of the pieces are copied. The principal contents of Vol. III are:-(a) A setting, for soprano voice, with accompaniment for strings, of Torquato Tasso's "La Gerusalemme Liberata," Canto xii, Stanzas 96, 97 and 99, by [Niccolò Antonio] Zingarelli. For other copies see Eitner, Quellen-Lexcon, x, P. 356. f. 1;-(b) "Domine Deus virtutum converte nos": a setting of portions of Psalm lxxix for four voices with a figured bass for organ, by Zingarelli. Probably autograph. f. 17;-(c) "L'estremo Addio ... spietato"; duet with orchestral accompaniment, presumably from the opera Piramo e Tisbe," by Nicola [Antonio] Manfroce (Riemann, Opern-Handbuch, 1887, p. 451 ; Dassori, Opere e Operisti, p. 282 ; but see also Florimo, La Scuola Musicale di Napoli, iii, 1883, pp. 106, 107). f. 19. Included in Vol. IV are (a) Cavatina, " Di barbara tempesta nell' infelice orror," by Giuseppe [Franz Joseph] Haydn. First published with English words, "While hollow burst the rushing winds," as no. 6 of Dr. Haydn's VI Original Canzonettas ... dedicated to Mrs. John Hunter, [1792-1793]. f. 19;-
(b) "Piramo e Tisbe": cantata for solo voice with pianoforte accompaniment by B[onifacio] Asioli. f. 29. The names of all the composers are given in the Index.
