PELL- PAPERS (lst Series)

Correspondence and papers of Dr. John Pell, mathematician, political agent of Cromwell to the protestant cantons of Switzerland and Resident at Zurich (1654-1658); 1631-1683. Latin, French, English, German, Italian and Dutch. For other series of Pell papers see Add. MSS. 4394-4404 and 4407-4431. The correspondence is mainly of a scientific rather than a political character, though a number of allusions are made to affairs connected with his Swiss mission, and many letters of intelligence from France, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, etc., are scattered throughout the volumes. A few of the letters are printed in The Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell by R. Vaughan, 1838 (in the appendix to which the family letters are inserted) and also in Letters of Scientific Men by S. J.
