The division between professional and personal correspondence and the order of letters within the files has been mostly left according to Harold Pinter's original arrangement. The personal correspondence has been divided into two series: 'special' and 'general'. The division between special personal correspondence and general has also been left according to the original arrangement. A number of the letters have been annotated at a later date with the surnames of the correspondents. The letters were originally stored in lever arch files; in this catalogue each volume represents one lever arch file, unless otherwise stated. Not all names within each folder have been indexed. Of those that have been indexed, there may be multiple letters from each person in any one section.
