This series of files consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, maps, and other papers relating to the political situation in Egypt and Sudan following the First World War. The papers concern the Egyptian Revolution of 1919, the Special Mission to Egypt led by Lord Milner to investigate what might be done in the country, and negotiations with the Egyptians to end the British protectorate.
Much of the correspondence is interdepartmental in nature, involving officials at the India Office, Foreign Office, War Office, Air Ministry, Admiralty, Colonial Office, and Board of Trade. Correspondence also comes from the Egyptian civil service, including Field Marshall Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, the High Commissioner. Minutes and memoranda from the War Cabinet and the Egyptian Administration Committee are also included.
