This Series is comprised of three Sub-Series.
Letters to William Henry Fox Talbot (1808-1877) concerns letters to W. H. F. Talbot from family, friends as well as professional and business associates. The letters have been arranged by sender in alphabetical order.
Letters from William Henry Fox Talbot (1808-1877) contains letters of both a personal and professional nature from W. H. F. Talbot. Many of the professional or business letters are in draft form. Letters have been arranged by recipient in alphabetical order.
Letters between family and friends of William Henry Fox Talbot (1770-1952) concerns correspondence between members of the Talbot family as well as some professional letters between individuals with the subject often concerning William Henry Fox Talbot. The letters in this SubSeries are arranged by sender in alphabetical order. There are two SubSubSeries; one for Lady Elizabeth Theresa Feilding (1773-1846) found at (88942/2/176-88942/2/191) and one for Matilda Theresa Talbot (1871-1958) for material dating from between 1922 and 1952 mostly concerning the Talbot archive itself. This can be found at (88942/2/197).
In addition to the Talbot archive at the British Library the definitive resource concerning the correspondence of William Henry Fox Talbot is the project undertaken by The University of Glasgow and De Montfort University, Leicester under the editorial guidance of Professor Larry Schaaf. This online resource provides transcriptions, translations and footnotes to all the correspondence of William Henry Fox Talbot held by various institutions and individuals around the world.
