This series contains pocket notebooks, personal diaries, address books and almanacks. The large majority of these belong to William Henry Fox Talbot, and his mother Lady Elizabeth Theresa Feilding. The remaining material in (88942/5/3) dates from between 1783 and 1951 and is from Henrietta Gaisford, one of Talbot’s step-sisters, Charles Henry Talbot, his son, and Matilda Theresa Talbot, his granddaughter. There is also one unidentified pocket notebook and two pocket almanacks.
Talbot’s pocket notebooks, found at (88942/5/1), tend to be filled with scattered thoughts and observations on seemingly random events. They date from between 1811 to 1877. By contrast, Lady Feilding’s diaries, dating from 1803 to 1845, are neatly filled containing social engagements, personal notes and other jottings in both English and French. They can be found at (88942/5/2).
